In April 2006, Legambiente, Italy's biggest environmental protection organization, published its list of the best lake ecologies in Italy. Among the top five was the Laghetto di Fiè, which was recognized inter alia for its excellent water quality and scenic beauty. "This award fills us with pride," emphasized the Mayor of Fiè, Mr. Arno Kompatscher after the certificate of recognition was presented at Lake Trasimeno, "not only because the Laghetto di Fiè offers an intact ecological system, but also because the evaluation took into account such factors as the hotel structure and separate waste collection, too." The official recognition, which has been published in the "Guida Blu" tour guide of the Touring Club Italiano, will both be a stimulus for the community of Fiè to continue its exemplary ecological policies and practices, and also a source of information for the people about where they can find good water quality.
