Just What Makes a Good Ski Instructor?

The profession of "ski instructor" requires skill and athletic talent, empathy and patience – but also a life-long enthusiasm for skiing and the desire to transmit that enthusiasm to others. And you can take it for granted that a good ski instructor is also an excellent skier, himself!
Many of the children who grow up in and around the Alpe di Siusi learn to ski while practically still toddlers. That shouldn't surprise anyone, seeing as how they have access to all the snow they could wish for – and with the Seiser Alm, a first-rate ski region, right at their doorstep. The kids begin racing in ski contests at an early age, and the most-talented among them soon develop into real racing pros. Of course, they have a complete mastery of skiing, and because it's so much fun, too, they are reluctant to hang up their skis once they stop competing. So: What could be more logical than to make a profession out of their hobby and train to become ski instructors? The training is challenging, and not everyone makes it through. It also takes a lot of time, but when the trainees complete their tests and are finally entitled to call themselves "certified ski instructors", they are also thoroughly grounded in pedagogical aspects, psychology, and safety. Their future students are thus guaranteed a high degree of quality.
